Sunday Mass Reflection - 2/6/22

Today’s Readings:

  • Isaiah 6:1-8

  • Psalm 138:1-5, 7-8

  • 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

  • Luke 5:1-11

Today the gospel showed us 4 things we need to do to fill the emptiness we feel.

We have all experienced the feeling of emptiness. Where we feel a sense of nothingness & numbness that represents a feeling of disconnection with self & others & results in feelings of unfulfillment & purposelessness. When we feel this way we try to fill the void with meaningless things like drinking, porn/sex, spending hours watching TV, scrolling on social media, or playing video games. But there is only one way to fully fill the feeling of emptiness-by spending time with the Lord. Whether that be in His word, through prayer, or with the sacraments. We can only find fulfillment with God. Jesus transforms us to the fullness of life.

Things we need to give up to God:

  1. Our possessions (materialistic items) - Simon Peter allowed Jesus to use his boat to teach the crowd

  2. Our profession - Simon followed Jesus’ command about putting the nets out to catch fish even though they had just spent all night fishing & caught nothing

  3. Our knowledge & abilities - Jesus said they would be fishers of men

  4. Our own self - give up everything & follow Jesus
