When Jesus teaches us to pray, “Thy will be done,” He invites us to trust God completely, just as a child trusts their parent. Being a child of God shares many similarities with being an actual child: both require dependence, trust, and a willingness to accept guidance and care.

As children, we rely on our parents for our needs—food, shelter, love, and direction. Similarly, as children of God, we depend on Him for spiritual nourishment, guidance, and strength. Just as a child runs to their parent for help and reassurance, we are called to turn to God with the same confidence, knowing He will provide for us and carry us through life’s challenges.

Children learn obedience through love and discipline, trusting their parents’ wisdom even when they don’t fully understand. In the same way, being a child of God means surrendering to His will, even when it’s difficult. Trusting God’s plan, especially when it differs from our own, is an act of faith that allows us to grow in holiness and grace.

A child does not have to earn their parent’s love; they are loved simply because they belong to them. As God’s children, we are loved unconditionally. He delights in us, even when we fall short, and His will for us is always rooted in His love. Praying “Thy will be done” is an acknowledgment that His plans for us are good, even when they are beyond our understanding.

Children find joy in being close to their parents, sharing their love and presence. As God’s children, we find joy in His presence through prayer, the sacraments, and reflecting on His Word. Knowing we are His gives us a sense of belonging and peace.

Being a child of God means trusting Him completely, just as a child trusts their parent. When we pray “Thy will be done,” we surrender ourselves to His loving care, knowing that His will is for our good.

Today, let’s reflect on our relationship with God as our Father. Let us approach Him with the heart of a child—dependent, trusting, and open to His will—confident that His love will guide us in all things. ❤️
