• Our entrance through death, into a new life in Jesus’ Church

• Receive the Holy Spirit

• Enter into a relationship with the Spirit

• Found salvation & forgiveness

• Given a candle & the words “receive the light of Christ” & “Keep this light glowing brightly” are spoken as symbols of the light that was lit within us.

• Seals us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit

• brings us to the table of the Lord, where we eat the Bread of Life & drink from the Cup of Eternal Salvation

• To share a table is to enter into a relationship with others; an intimate relationship by drinking from the same cup
  

𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠: our new life can be weakened & even lost bc of sin; Christ, the physician of our soul & body, will to continue His works of healing & salvation by the power of the Holy Spirit.

- 𝙿𝚎𝚗𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚎 & 𝚁𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚌𝚒𝚕𝚒𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 (𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚒𝚘𝚗): 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘮; 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯

• sin = a rupture of communion with God & damages communion with the Church

• Increase in spiritual strengthen to continue conversion

• “naming the sin”/confession = healing

• forgiveness of sins = salvation

• Restores our relationship w/ Jesus & others + the Church

• Church intercedes for the sick + contributes to sanctification

• Gifts of the Holy Spirit = strength, peace, & courage to overcome illness to continue journey

• Gifts + Forgiveness of sins = healing

• Restoration of health = if conducive for salvation

• Unites our relationship w/ Christ more intimately to His Passion for the good of the People of God

𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: “It’s not about me”, its about the salvation of others; reminds us to put aside our personal needs to serve the community; promote the importance of community.

• Mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time

• Ordained priesthood - bishops, priest, & deacons

• Sacred power in the name & with the authority of Christ (in the person of Christ the Head) in the Community = Gift of the Holy Spirit

• serves to build up & maintain the health of the common priesthood (the Church)

• serves as a sign of the intimate connection to Jesus

• serves community by teaching, divine worship, & pastoral governance

• Ultimately Christ give us his graces in the sacraments & acts through the ordained minister = salvation of community

• symbol of God’s love & fidelity

• signifies the union of Chirst & the Church

• ordered toward the good of the spouses & the procreation & education of offspring

• help one another to attain holiness in their married life

• covenant - an exchange of persons, lasts until death; not a contract - exchange of promises, can be canceled or declared invalid

• living sign of the selfless & life-giving love that God has for humanity = symbolic of the covenant that God has made with his people

• a man and a woman selflessly offer themselves - body & soul- to one another in sexual intercourse = outward sign of God’s love & fidelity

• total self-giving of 1 person to another through sexual intercourse = highest expression of love

• Children are the supreme gift of marriage & contribute greatly to the good of the parents themselves
